Here's my list! I have two different types of favorite horror films: The truly scary and disturbing films and the ones that are so bad or ridiculous that they're good!
Scary/Disturbing:
Of course the Exorcist (that damn clown/demon face lol!), the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (in the theaters), recently The Unborn (creepy dog and crooked/disfigured creatures!), Session 9 (great psychological thriller about demonic influences & abandoned psych wards! Most haven't heard of it but it deserves some awards!), American Psycho (love Chrisitan Bale and how eccentric he was!), the remake of The Amittyville Horror (Ryan Reynolds was actually scary for once!), The Exorcism of Emily Rose (based on a true story, you can hear the real audio clips online...lol don't do it!), The Shinning (good old classic!) etc. Anything with clowns, dolls, little kids, demonic/evil stuff, and farmer/hick things like the Hills Have Eyes disturb me. Also abandoned psych wards lol!
Funny/Ridiculous:
Army of Darkness and Evil Dead I, II (Bruce Campbell stars in these films that are like claymation and horrible graphics lol, also theres a MSU storyline and theme behind the movie; you'll see an MSU sweatshirt on the girl in Evil Dead II), Phantasm (1979 film thats just straight up ridiculous but amazing!), Pet Cemetery (creepy but humorous at the same time...my sister hated it though lol!), The Haunting of Lisa (a stumbled upon gold mine that we found at a truck stop hahah! Oh its glorious!)...I'll come up with some more later I'm sure but those are the top ones I can think of!

It is funny you mention Doll's and such! When ever I have in the past been called in by friends or family due to not so nice things in their homes I always hate Dolls. I especialy hate the ones with porcilien faces or the old school baby dolls!!! They always freak me out. Never mind nothing has ever happened with one ie no blinking you talking you head spinning I am still waiting!!!LOL
I think Steven King puts out some of the most socialy disturbing scary movies with ease! So I thought Red Rose was an excellent scarry flick. Any more I like to see some acting and a story line in the scarry movie other wise they just boreing. The Believers was scarry! The Hell Raiser series is good for some excitment and suspense as well. I grew up watching this stuff from like age 6. When my Dad would be gone for months at a time because of the Army my Mom would make me stay up late and what horro flics with her. When I was older she would drag me off to see scary movies all the time. So at this point I enjoy seeing them with people that really get into them because I get more out of the empathic experince of them being scared then I do myself. So I am alsways looking for someone of the female gender to go see scary movies with. I just do not want another guy grabing my arm at the theater sorry just not cool! One of my best friends is gay and he is rather feminine I once went to a scary movie with him and he ended up jumping onto my lap and wrapping his arms around my neck!!! So not cool!!!!LOL
Phantasim is great as is the Exhorsist and all it's version's. The Emily Rose story did not scare me at all if anythign I was glued to the screen with interest. Like Wise anytime PRS does an Exorsism with a Priest present even if itis a minor right of deliverence I am glued tot he screen trying to learn.
One movie that I found disturbing as a Child was Rosemarries Baby that is not probably scarry by todays standards especialy graphicly but the social concerns and implications of the story are truly disturbing!! | |
