"Searching" a paranormal documentary

PART II:

10/26/09

HOLLY, Mich. (WXYZ) - The enchanting Victorian Inn turned restaurant has been charming guests ever since 1891.But some claim they can hear childlike spirits running up and down the stairs or giggling.

Others say they’ve seen a woman’s image similar to that of Nora Kane. The woman’s portrait looms in the hotel’s lobby.

Chrissy Kutlenios is the Historic Holly Hotel’s owner. She says only once has she seen something startling that she really couldn’t explain. It happened when she was walking into the hotel’s main dining room one morning.

“I looked up in this corning right here. I saw an American Indian. And he had no feet – just a head and headdress,” she recalls pointing toward a light fixture hanging above a table. “It was startling. We had this eye contact. We just looked at each other. I looked away, and he was gone.”

When you pass through the original swinging wooden doors into the kitchen, you are entering the realm of the Holly Hotel’s most active ghosts, according to some.

Plates will just fall off the counter for no apparent reason. Utensils will move around the kitchen including a meat cleaver!

So are there spirits living in the Historic Holly Hotel?

“Many, many, many spirits. I’m not even sure how many,” says Bridgett Shipway of the Michigan Paranormal Research Association. She was on a team from the MPRA which videotaped a moving orb at the hotel in March of 2009.

“It’s basically a ball of light,” explains MPRA member Samantha Harris. “Some people confuse it with dust because sometimes it is. However, it had its own light source. It had a flight path because it avoided them, and it also went into the wall because it disappears which is interesting.”

The Historic Holly Hotel will hold séances at 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday this week for those who would like to decide for themselves if the hotel is haunted.

You can find out more information at the hotel’s website:

MOUNT PLEASANT HAUNTINGS: Mill Pond Park

Samantha Harris, a CMU alumni and president of the Michigan Paranormal Research Association, said she has witnessed too many examples of paranormal activity to list.

She is convinced that Millpond Park, 607 S. Adams St., is haunted.

November 2006, during her freshman year at CMU, Harris and two friends investigated Mill Pond to determine whether or not it was haunted.

She said as they walked through the dark park late at night she started having thoughts and visions of a paranormal presence trying to
scratch them with claws.

“I’ve never had this happen before but it was like a movie in my mind’s eye; some could describe that as a premonition but it wasn’t that vivid; more like daydreaming,” she said. “I saw something making the gesture of clawing at me, towards my face.”

She didn’t mention it to here friends until they were leaving.

Later that night, she got a call from one of her friends who was with her during the investigation and said he found claw marks, which did
not belong to thorns or a tree, on the side of his body, while he was getting ready to go to sleep.

Harris said she gets an odd feeling in the park.

“There is the feeling of someone or something, watching you. Your every move. You’re not wanted or welcome there and I do feel that something resides there,” she said.

We've been filming a documentary/docu-drama piece with a group of MSU videographers; filmed an investigation at the Holly Hotel again!
Watch for us on WXYZ Channel 7 News sometime early next week; there should be some teasers over the weekend too! If any of you see the Belle Tire commercial with my bulldog in it, please record it or send it to me lol. I will pay you! On top of the State News we have the CMU student newspaper, Spartan Edge and possibly Channel 6 covering some of our stuff! Yay!

PLEASE PROTEST "EXTREME PARANORMAL" on A&E...such a DANGEROUS show!!!

 Hey guys!

So I am assuming and hoping that there are other paranormal investigators, parapsychologists, demonologists and theologists that are as upset as myself...let alone the general viewers! A&E has gone off the deep end! They are now airing a new series called "Extreme Paranormal". This show (not an exaggeration) shows exactly how to do satanic rituals, how to summon the dead and one of the head members slits his own wrist for one of the ceremonies!!! "I'm going to recreate Hell!" and "If you can't handle the heat, stay outta Hell!"...these are their mottos. They are ruining everything that credible individuals/groups have fought to change! This is absolutely dangerous! People will get hurt and you know there will be some idiots who think its a great idea and hilarious...so they try it themselves and unlock things they couldn't even imagine in their worst nightmare. This isn't a joke. No not everything with the paranormal is evil (its not), but this specifically focuses on the dark and demonic!!! NO respect for the paranormal community! Heck, the cartoon network teenagers are kicking ass compared to these idiots! I hope they're not expecting a large audience or respect...they're not going to get it. I contacted A&E and read them the riot act! I highly reccommend that you contact A&E and the producers/production companies too! Please! Just click this link here and write a short blib about how insane this is!

Apparently this show is being produced by "Painless Entertainment" (oh the irony!!!) and Brownstone Entertainment. The executive producers are....Jim Casey, Joe Carolei, Drew Brown and Rob Hammersley are executive producers. Robert Sharenow and Elaine Frontain Bryant are executive producers for A&E.

GO SICK 'EM!!! ;)

 Paranormal presence

By Marilyn King (Last updated: 10 hours ago)

When Samantha Harris was 2 years old, she guessed what her birthday present was.
It was then that she decided she had a connection with the metaphysical.

Harris became interested in the paranormal, researching ghostly activities at a young age. The psychology senior started the Michigan Paranormal Research Association, or MPRA, her freshman year at Central Michigan University. Once she transferred to MSU, when Harris took her efforts to research the paranormal a step further, conducting house cleansings and paranormal activity investigations across the state.

MPRA is in talks with A&E TV about making a sequel to the popular paranormal series, “Paranormal State,” which chronicles a similar group at Penn State. The group has been filmed for a few different versions of a pilot, and the project still is in talks with producers of A&E TV. However, contract disagreements have caused Harris and her crew momentarily to pause on the possible television show.

Cleansing homes

Cleansings involve Native American rituals that use sage, sea salt and other herbs, along with a smudge stick, to rid bad spirits from a home, Harris said. MPRA posts listings on Craigslist or sometimes in the Lansing State Journal to let people know about house cleansings the group performs. Because of the taboo nature of the paranormal, those who contact the MRPA through their Web site, michiganpra.com, sometimes are shy about needing a house cleansing. “Some people are hesitant, and I don’t blame them,” she said. The need for a house cleansing can vary, with different symptoms at each house. “Some people will have trouble sleeping or seeing weird things, or will have physical side effects that they didn’t even consider were part of the situation,” Harris said. Last year, the MPRA went to a couple’s home in Grand Ledge who contacted the group and were concerned about having sleeping problems. The team first sat down with the couple and talked to them about what they intended to do in the home. The couple did not feel they needed a full-fledged paranormal investigation, but a house cleansing, Harris said. “It wasn’t like there were weird scratches on the walls or anything, but there was definitely sleep disruption,” she said. The group doesn’t just visit homes. The next step for the group is working on doing a paranormal investigation at the state Capitol building in Lansing the coming weeks, Harris said. “We’ve heard weird stories about it,” Harris said. A house necessarily does not have to be haunted for a house cleansing to be a good idea, Harris said. “It can clean up energy, illness, or if there are a lot of fights in the home it brings in positive energy,” she said. Once people have the MPRA come in to their house to do a cleansing, Harris said they have no further complaints. The cleansings do not cost money, but Harris said she does not mind accepting donations for long trips or supplies. “This is unlike phony psychics I’ve dealt with who charge $500 to cleanse a house,” she said. Harris did a house cleansing at her own house in East Lansing when she moved in
this semester, she said.

Seeing the strange

In addition to house cleansing, the association takes part in extensive paranormal investigations. Last spring, the group went to the Historic Holly Hotel in Holly, Mich., where the group brought surveillance cameras, dowsing rods and digital voice recorders to properly assess the area for activity, said Kyle Gask-Wilson, an Ingham County compliance officer and member of MPRA. Because the hotel is notorious for creepy activity, the group was welcome to dig around for activity out of the ordinary. Hotel manager Jessica Allis said paranormal research groups often nose around the hotel with strobe lights and ghostly gadgets. It’s from these expeditions that the hotel has begun a section called “The Ghosts” on its Web site, hollyhotel.com. “It is 100 percent for certain that (these groups) do experience haunted things at the hotel,” Allis said. What the MPRA search turned up was an undeniable paranormal presence, said Gask-Wilson, who is a senior investigator of the group. “There was a light anomaly that came out through a floor and shot up through the ceiling,” Gask-Wilson said. “And once we looked through the pictures, we noticed that you can actually see a figure of an older gentleman who looks like he has a tuxedo on.” On the voice recording, Gask-Wilson said the group heard traces of a little girl’s voice, although the room the voice recorder was in remained empty. The MRPA Web site has personal photos Harris has submitted that depict instances of paranormal activity, such as ghosts in the background of the photos. Harris avoids posting photos to the Web site that include orbs, or ones that have what appears to be a ball of floating light, because they are not as legitimate. The most active times the group is contacted for house cleansings or investigations are in the fall and spring, Harris said. In the winter, during cold and stormy conditions, there is a correlation between the weather and the existence of paranormal activity, she said. “During the fall, we have what is called a thin layer between our world and the paranormal world; it allows them to make more contact with us,” Gask-Wilson said.

Hey Everyone!

So its coming up on that lovely season of Halloween soon! MPRA has contacted the Capitol in Lansing to see if we'd be able to do an investigation on October 30th or 31st. We've been in contact with several news groups such as MSU's State News and our Channel 6 with the lovely Jane Aldrich (very spiritual and enlightening woman!). We hope to get some fun activities going and are wondering if the public would like to participate in some community meetings? Also, I'd like to promote "The Infernal Truth" which will be an exciting presentation in Clare, Michigan on November 8th. Check out www.infernaltruth.com funds go to helping out one of the member's cancer treatment! Thanks!

Hey everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying the end of summer (depressing I know!) and getting ready for that special time of the season! I love fall! Not because its my birthday time, but because it's when the "veil is thinning" between worlds and it gives us that "otherworldly" feeling! The average spirit activity increases greatly during this time (cold weather seasons and storms seem to cause a lot of activity), not speaking about God or Angels as some have arugued, but rather the spirits amongst us are able to communicate or show us a glimpse of their realm. Very exciting! Plus I am also a huge halloween haunted house attraction dork! :) Jack the Mack, our English Bulldog, is growing huge! He'll be massive by the time Halloween rolls around! Not sure what his costume will be yet but I broke my vow of never dressing him up lol. I also love the decorations; already decorated our house with some indian corn haha. Big dork!

I've been busy reading The Dark Sacrament by Christina Mckeena & David Kiely- Holy crap! What a great book! One of THE BEST that I have ever read! Not only is it extremely compelling to read (beautifully written) but it is amazingly informational for those who are wanting to brief themselves on demonic possession and occurences. I highly reccommend it! Obviously if that sort of talk disturbs you, don't read it...or at least while you're alone! Its amazing to read these true accounts and stories from REAL people in our modern time!

We currently are looking for those who wish to dedicate or spend some time on a couple ghost hunts around our area! Also if you would like to book a night through a haunted hotel, like our investigation of Holly Hotel, we should plan on that soon! Please offer some ideas rather than ask to come along. We have plently of those who want to join but not enough that actually contribute! Booking locations takes some work so I am starting early! Hope all is well! God bless! -Samantha-

6/30/09

Salutations everyone! ;)

Hope you all are enjoying the warmer weather (was quite a cold summer for awhile!). The 4th of July is coming up quickly so I hope you get to have some time to yourselves! We've been putting together some new investigations along with helping some families out with their unwanted visitors. If you know of any current hauntings that someone would like to resolve we'd be more than happy to help! Since the weather is getting nicer a lot more of you have been interested in conducting some investigations and we have some prime locations in mind. If you've been wanting to check out a certain spot, feel free to share with us and we'll see if we can get a full investigation underway there. I always like to get the history and property background but we could narrow things down a bit and just collect evidence and physically investigate the property.

Mr. Jack the Mack MacHeath has arrived at our home! Kyle and I moved to Bath, Mi where that horrible school massacre happened...eerie but actually very peaceful now. Jack is a bright red brindle and white and is absolutely a gorgeous clown! I'll include a picture! We've been busy with new job, new house, new puppy, etc...ugh! Very happy though! He is about 9 1/2 - 10 weeks old now! Can already see the growth! :)

He loves his cheeseburger! :)

5/12/09

Hey everybody!

So we are celebrating Kyle's graduation and birthday this month; horray! Mr. Tom also is a taurus and celebrated his bday! Yay for bulls! Speaking of bulls...

I am awaiting my new baby english bulldog who is already named Jack but we may/may not keep his name. Adorable! He'll be our assistant and help with investigations! Haha! Actually I strongly believe animals especially cats/dogs can sense other-worldly things along with seeing them. Cats and dogs have dramatically different cones and rods in their eyes and can see a very different world than ours. I've seen dogs watch things up a ceiling or bark at the door, etc when no one or thing is there...We'll get him a ghostbuster outfit and humiliate him I'm sure...no haha.

Haha I already feel bad for the dog...But we need a tough guy  to do the job on our investigations and who can stay cool under pressure...that face says it all haha.

4/22/09

Happy Earth Day everyone!!!

I hope you all are able to go out and enjoy yourselves today! The weather seems to be quite nice so far *knock on wood* don't want to jinx our bipolar state lo!

So as we all know life never goes as planned and there have been some stagnation issues we've encountered unforunately. However, it was best for our safety. Been busy trying to establish plans for this next year with school and living arrangements but have also been trying to remain flexible and available; quite difficult. Thank God school is almost out though! I hope to take a vacation this summer seeing as this year has been a living Hell with family crisis issues and all that other good stuff haha. Kyle and I have been doing some house cleansings and we're always glad to be of help to those in need :).

I'll try to keep you all updated the best I can and to the extent I am allowed lol. Please take a quick second out of your day to help out others and the rest of the world! God knows we need it in times like these! Thank you for all your support and best wishes!

Yahoo!

Life is quite a rollercoaster but I wouldn't have it any other way! Wish Kyle and I could filll you in!This is such an amazing opportunity and I want to open the world to so much more! I especially would love to meet Lauraine Warren (bless Ed) she's been my idol since I read about her my freshmen/sophomore year in high school. Such a strong and beautiful lady! Anywho! We bought a new camera system which is soooo nice! We are all very happy with it! Of course the guys loved buying new toys ;). Had an interesting God-send that Kyle also witnessed....he was visiting with me at MSU during lunch and I was talking about how I wanted to talk with an important person because I think we communicate very well to each other and was a bit confused with what was going on. So I look up on the TV, first thing my eyes go to is at the bottom left hand corner next to the news ticker..."Talk To R***"....Never have heard of a TV program like that especially on the news channel lol. The Lord works in mysterious ways! So I did and everythiing is cleared up now, horray! Here are some pics! I will keep you updated and please keep the prayers going! Much love and God bless!

Kyle busy "researching" and chewing on straws (a favorite pastime of his)...*check out the nice sweatshirt, too!*

3/16/09

Alrighty!

There is quite a lot to catch everyone up on! My assistant director Kyle and I thought it was best to wait until a more appropriate time to share all that has been occuring in the past two weeks! Not only did we not want to jinx it, but we also didn't want to celebrate too soon! Although we'd like to share more it'll have to remain underwraps due to privacy but I can talk about our exciting investigation we had recently!

Within three or four days I had booked our investigation to be held at the Holly Hotel in Holly, Mi. One of the most haunted places in our country!  http://www.hollyhotel.com/

The Holly Hotel is quite haunted and we have so much evidence to share! We had our infrared four camera security setup, infrared laser thermometer, EMF reader, dowsing rods, digital voice recorder, baby monitor, etc. This is quite exciting! I'm very proud of my group and want to thank everyone for their support and participation! What a great experience! Many personal experiences at the hotel, even the director had some odd occurences that were hard to explain! Please put in a good prayer for us and our hopeful success! I pride our group on being one of the few that offers solutions and doesn't approach the investigation in a disrespectful attitude like some current shows. I'd also like to thank Chrissy Kutlenios the Holly Hotel owner for her lovely hospitality and overall kindness towards my group. Thank you all!

2/18/09

Hello Guys!

We've definitely been making some adjustments that I'm pleased with and have been a more efficient way to handle the group and the public’s needs! We’ve been receiving a lot of e-mails and requests to join MPRA which is always exciting and flattering. I’m glad we’re making our way and earning more recognition and support! The only problem is that there are too many individuals wanting to participate and not enough skills and investigations being offered! I’m sure it would be a lot of fun for someone to join a paranormal research group but it’s critical that they offer some sort of experience and greatly needed skills. I thought it’d be easier to incorporate the public in our group and keep them updated with our progress but it seems we can do so only to a certain degree. Because MPRA is adapting a more MSU student background, the rules that the school upholds are a bit tricky to get around in terms of having nonstudent members joining. In order to receive all the benefits of being a Registered Student Organization (RSO), having free rooms and equipment to use for meetings and such, there must 5+ MSU students, a faculty member such as a professor, and someone to deal with the finances, etc because we’re enabled school funding. So you can see my dilemma!

However, I have a proposal! Much like the meeting that was planned for this month, we’d hold public meetings whenever sufficient evidence and investigations were availabble. We’d be presenting all of our findings from research and individual cases and would be inviting the public to come join and discuss the paranormal! We encourage the public to bring in their pictures, videos, evp’s, etc. It would also be a perfect opportunity for those who are curious about having an investigation conducted in their home, to see what we’re exactly about and to show that it wouldn’t be an invasion of privacy. Also, if you have an investigation to offer and is an available option then please let us know and obviously you’d be included in the investigation. Or if you’ve conducted your own research, then feel free to send in your findings and we’d be more than happy to post the results!

This is not to discourage anyone from requesting to join, however if you feel you truly have a gift to share (especially mediums and psychics) then please feel free to write! I always love meeting new intuitives and seeing if they’d want to assist in any investigations! Thank you guys so much for offering help and being so enthusiastic about this group! I love it! Hope all is well and talk to you soon!

1/30/09

Hey everyone!

Hope you're all doing great! SO! Update! After running around trying to find a reasonable place to have our upcoming meeting I've looked back into MSU's policies. I tried getting MPRA registered as a Student Organization last semester but they intentionally make it quite difficult. However I'm back into pursuing the idea because there are SO many benefits! I couldn't register the group earlier because there are several requirements that we didn't qualify for: Must have at least one professor to sign as the "overseer" of the group and ones that are willing (a lot don't want their names associated with the idea of a "Ghosty Group"), must have a minimum of 5 MSU students in the group to start, and filling out a load of paperwork and terms of use, etc. HOWEVER! I have a class that touches on the topic of metaphysics and I'm going to hopefully persuade my professor into signing the form (whether or not he wants to attend). Then I'm assuming we'll get a decent amount of responses from the MSU students from the flyers and I'll pick from them and assign placements. What does this have anything to do with our meeting you ask? Well! It costs about $200 just to rent a projector for my laptop at the Kellog Center/Hotel and thats excluding the room, and MSU charges students a handsome fee if they aren't in a registered group. BUT! If you are you are entitled to: use and seniority on board meeting rooms, the Wharton Center, Breslin Center, all resources and electronics needed for meetings, are allowed to recieve funding from the school, we'd get our own website/space through MSU (I'm keeping this site tho!), and financial help with accounting, etc. So on top of fulltime school, fighting a legal battle with MSU, and school/life/family in general, I've been working on this! Imagine how great it'd be to have some funding for fund raisers, charity events, etc. If you'd like to help with the flyers for the East Lansing/MSU area please let us know! mpra@live.com  Best wishes!

Hello to all again!

We're planning a "public" meeting or event for the month of Feb. Considering this is going to be open to a larger audience than usual we're looking for a good place to have the meet at. "Public" as in all site members and any of those who become interested through the finished flyers/posters that I'll be posting over the week around the MSU campus. What days/nights and times work for everyone? E-mail us at mpra@live.com and we'll plan this accordingly. Hope to have snacks, stories, evidence (evps/photos) and questions to share. I'll be briefing on some basic paranormal theories and concepts which might be a review for some but is a good starting point for all. -Sam-

Happy New Year everyone! Hope everyone's holidays went well and you survived!

We've been working on clearing out the deadwood and to get this puppy moving again! This last Sunday Kyle and I performed a private ceremonial house cleansing for a very close family friend/family. We both feel it was quite successful although I'm sure we didn't get all 7-8+ spirits out ;) We caught some EVPs on tape and had our lovely accomplice Lisa S. review the recording and she found some very interesting results. After showing the findings to the family friend it was exciting to find out to what degree of personal value and relation these "statements" had! Names and sentences caught on tape that had significant meaning! Goes to prove that EVPs are legitimate! Now that we have more spiritually experienced and paranormally educated members willing to particpate, we'll be heading out to the next several sites on my list! Always good to have someone with a four year degree in Theology/Ministry and is an ordained minister so you know they've put in the time! We'd also like to thank Mr. Fasty for taking the time to submit and share his marvelous EVPs! Absolutely amazing! If anyone else feels like sharing their findings and treasures we'd love to post them with your permission! Hope all is well and best wishes! May this new year bring prosperity and happiness and new friends! -Sam-

MPRA Meetings

I know the holidays are rapidly approaching-some already passed, but as of Dec. 12th MSU's winter break begins! And then of course is finished by Jan. 12th. So! Within that time I plan on catching up and updating everything so we can get ahead. We need to get the core group meetings out of the way so we can progress on to the planned investigations. I've got several places in mind and members have offered some great options as well! One of the big ones I'd like to get our hands on is DeHoCo (Detroit House of Corrections) after we contact the property owners and hopefully schedule a time. But first and foremost we've got to get the meets organized and then I'd love to get us into the discussed funeral home. I'll be e-mailing you all to get this going! -Sam-

11/19/08 New Ghost Toys!!!

So for my birthday I was a dork and decided to buy The Ovilus featured on Paranormal State's episode Hell's Gate! Very fun device that I purchased from a Digital Dowsing website http://www.ghostshop.com. Great product and am considering purchasing The Puck in the future...along with some sweet infrared cameras... :) -Sam-

Telekinetic Enhancer! "Once you start developing your telekinetic abilities and you use the device you will be convinced that the movement of the rotor is not easily explained by science. The rotor does not move by heat radiation from your hands or by air currents. It is not magnetism either because the rotor is made of aluminum."

This thing is really fun and interesting! Had no idea that I would be able to move it! Cool!

11/13/08

I was recently contacted by a Mr. Marsh from the Chicago area. He is a published freelance writer/inde. film director interested in collecting research and stories from several paranormal groups across the U.S. Excitingly, he would like me to share a couple of my investigations! If you guys have any investigations (pictures, videos, story, timeline, etc) you think he might be interested in them please e-mail me at: mpra@live.com I'm hoping to finish up my summaries by the next two weeks. Not due until December but I like to be timely. "Tremont Avenus Productions" if you're interested in checking it out. Thanks! -Sam-
